David, what a beautiful invitation to return to our breath. Thay is one of my root teachers and my practice is also rooted in the breath as my anchor.✨🙏
In addition, as a physician, I’d love to add that lengthening our exhale has a profound physiological effect on our nervous system. It shifts us from sympathetic drive-stressed alertness to parasympathetic Drive – rest and restore.
So not only did dear Thay give us a powerful anchor for our minds, by placing our attention on our breath, but also slowing down our respiration, lengthening our exhale, we help our body come back to balance and safety. 🙏✨♥️
I now feel like going back and reading his beautiful books again. I spent a summer reading only his works. The way I felt after that was inspired . What a fantastic human being.
Love the paean to TNH. Keep it simple, beginner’s mind, just start over have all helped me to remember the breath. Also, self-compassion for when I forget.
Thanks a bunch, RQ. Wishing you a peaceful 2026 full of self-compassion! --David
He truly was. We were lucky to have him as long as we did. Thanks, Pamela.
Thanks, Tamy. I'll try the longer exhale tip.
